Drowning Dungeon
Drowning Dungeon is a prototype for a survival horror dungeon crawler. It is inspired by old first person dungeon crawlers and RPG Maker Horror.
You are a prisoner being held in a deep dungeon on the edge of the Godelow Sea. Under mysterious circumstances, the prison is breaking down and flooding rapidly. Escape the dungeon before you are completely submerged.
Be careful... There's something in the water...

This game works best with mouse and keyboard -- Mobile touch controls will not work as intended
This project was made for the RPG Maker Horror Game Jam #4 with a theme of "Song of the Sea" and was mostly a learning experience.
There are many non-game breaking bugs, a plethora of content that needed to be cut, and various shortcuts that had to be taken in order to release this in time for the jam. I do not plan on updating or expanding on the prototype, but I do plan on using the experience I gained in this process for future games.

omg i had no idea you could do 3d in rpg maker??!? AND do it so INSANELY well??!? wtf?!??
i'll compliment everything else but i really need to talk about the presentation because WOW THE PRESENTATION WAS INCREDIBLE!!! this game was a TREAT for the eyes and ears like almost nothing else i've seen in rpg maker!! everything, from the textures to the movement to the colors to the music to the sounds conveyed the feel of an old dungeon crawler PERFECTLY. FLAWLESSLY. 11/10 NO NOTES. i loved how there being very few colors made every zone feel distinct. i loved the super garbled faith trilogy-like voices. i loved the music choice for everything. i loved the random cracks you see on some walls. i loved the random things floating in the water. i loved the steps sounds. i loved the FONT. the way this game looks & sounds was simply amazing from start to finish. well friggin' done.
(SPOILERS)
in terms of the actual gameplay, i really liked it too! i'm not the biggest dungeon crawler fan cause i tend to get lost very easily haha, but the levels were small enough that it wasn't a problem. i loved how each part had a different gameplay! made the game feel diverse and going up each floor be really exciting since you don't know what you're seeing next. i quite liked the fights with the mermaids and tentacles, they felt fair and the fight system itself was neat. i'll admit some parts were a bit harder to figure out, like finding the first key or the chase sequence, but it didn't ruin the experience or anything. (also, i found a glitch where by going back in the last level and then entering it again, the entire screen goes black and there's no way to fix it. didn't know where to put this but i felt i should mention it)
honestly, it's hard to believe this is a prototype because it's just SO insanely polished and cool. i REALLY hope you use the things you learned from this game in your next projects, because this level of quality shouldn't go overlooked!! :D
